002. 1 September, 1980 [01 Sep 2010|11:05pm]
The house is far too quiet without the children around. It's too disconcerting. I think I'll finally have gotten used to the quiet just before the winter hols roll around, and then I'll once again be used to their noise when they leave to return to school in January. Especially since Alex has taken to clomping about the house in his boots and make all sorts of noise, and the twins squealing over make-up, and Briony wanting to help with everything. And with the fourth anniversary of Cecilia's death looming on the horizon

I hope I'm not the only parent here bemoaning the sudden silence in their home with their children off to school?

001. 23 August, 1980 [23 Aug 2010|06:07pm]
It's really kind of hard to believe that my littlest will be starting her second year at Hogwarts in just over a week. We've gotten Alex's OWL marks, of course, and they are as superb as we expected them to be. He's still debating which courses he wants to continue taking at NEWT level. All four of the children, naturally, are distraught at the loss of both their Headmaster Uncle Albus and their Defense professor, but they are looking forward to their favourite Transfiguration professor becoming the Headmistress, and Briony just hopes that Professor Lynch is "nice." Lavinia is hoping that Professor Trelawney will be as "amazingly insightful" as Professor Imago was. Maria has remained rather quiet through all this tumult and change My children, they keep me young.

In other news, I will certainly be attending the opening night of The Importance of Being Merlin. The girls are upset that they will miss it by just a few days, so I promised to bring them a playbill and to try to get as many of the main cast's signatures as I am able to, for them. I know at least some of you cast members are on these wonderful journals, I don't suppose an old man could beseech you to take pity on him and his children by signing the playbill for my little girls? (Once I've attended the show and procured one, of course!)

Every man is a damn fool for at least five minutes every day; wisdom consists in not exceeding the limit.
